Red Flowers

Whether used colloquially, in phrases such as seeing red, painting the town red or red states, or symbolically like the universally understood Red Cross, nothing conveys a strong emotion like the color red.
Red flowers posses a similar type of power, conveying the gamut of emotions ranging from the Red Poppy's somber reminder of war, to the Poinsettia's celebration of Christmas, to the red rose's expression of love.
The meanings of red flowers may change from place to place and culture to culture. However, across cultures, there's something about red flowers that draws a hummingbird's attention, tweaks a gardener's green thumb, and turns a gaze at a photographer's lens.
Starting with the red rose at the top of this page, this album celebrates a sample of red flowers, found on plants, trees and shrubs, that brighten up the lives of people and birds around the United States.
